CBN honing stick is an important component on honing machine, which is widely used in aerospace, automotive, motorcycle, air conditioning refrigeration, hydraulic and pneumatic, oil pump nozzle, industrial sewing machine, petroleum machinery, engineering machinery, bearing, mold, wind instrument and other processing fields.

When honing the workpieces containing iron group elements at high temperature by using diamond honing stones, there will be carbonization.

CBN honing stones have become the preferred choice for honing the workpieces containing iron group elements.

When choosing the superabrasive honing stone, the first step is to determine whether it is suitable for diamond honing stones or CBN honing stones. Secondly, choose metal bond or resin bond based on the grinding accuracy to determine the required grain size.

Manufacturing Technology of CBN Honing Stone

The honing effect depends not only on the machine tool itself, but also on the process grade of honing stone.

The technology of CBN honing stone should consider the hardness, grain size, abrasive type, bonding agent type, and etc.

The strength of the bonding agent of honing stone should not only be sufficient to stick the abrasive grains together, but also be able to timely fall off the dull CBN abrasive grains, exposing new CBN abrasive grains , so that the honing stone can maintain good sharpness.

How to choose CBN abrasive for honing stone

When choosing the appropriate CBN abrasive, not the higher the grade of abrasive, the better the honing effect is.

Medium quality CBN abrasives may have better grinding effect than higher grade abrasives.

There are fixed formulas for grinding mature products.

If grinding new materials, it requires customers to provide detailed information such as honing machine model, grinding mode, grinding accuracy, feed rate, and etc.

Selection of bonder of CBN stone

The bonder can aggregate cubic boron nitride particles and press them into CBN stones, which is an important factor affecting the performance of the stones. It affects the self-sharpness of the honing stones, the surface quality of the workpiece to be processed, and the service life of the stones.

There are usually metal bond and resin bond.

The metal bond CBN honing stones have long life and are used for rough honing, which have excellent workpiece removal capacity and long life.

The resin bond CBN stone have excellent performance during the finish grinding process.

A CBN Stone Manufacturing Process

Mix the first metal powder with non-metallic powders such as graphite, Fe₃O_4,MoS₂ in a predetermined ratio and form the bonding agent, and then add the predetermined amount of cubic boron nitride( CBN) abrasive，and obtain the working layer grains.

Then the second metal powder will be transition layer grains. The working layer grains are arranged in the first mould to form the working layer of CBN honing stone, and then the transition layer grains are on the working layer in the first mould to from the transition layer, and then the first mould is pressed to form the preformed CBN honing stone. Put the preformed honing stone into the second mould and perform hot pressing to obtain the CBN honing stones.
