CDX Grinding Wheels Are Mainly Used for Grinding Non-metallic Hard and Brittle Materials and Composite Workpieces Containing Iron Elements.
CDX grinding wheel is a new type of grinding wheel that made of CBN and diamond abrasives. It is used for composite materials (such as tungsten steel with high-speed steel).
C is for CBN, D is for diamond, and X is for mixture.
CDX grinding wheel has the features of iron containing material to be ground by CBN grinding wheel, and also has the features of tungsten carbide to be ground by diamond grinding wheel. At the same time, it avoids the carbonization when iron group elements material grinding. There is no situation that tungsten carbide grinding not good by CBN grinding wheel, and burns workpiece.
CBN
CBN(cubic boron nitride) is composed of boron and nitrogen element. Compared with diamond, there is no carbon atoms for CBN and it is very suitable for processing steel.

Its hardness maintains strong stability at high temperatures, while the hardness of diamond greatly decreases when the temperature is over 700℃。
Diamond
The hardness of diamond is half higher than that of CBN material. With high hardness, diamond grinding wheel is highly suitable for processing the following materials.

- -Graphite and ferrite
- -Glass and non-metallic materials
- -Sapphire and precious stone
- -Reinforced fiber composite
Because diamond is composed of pure carbon, it is not suitable for processing steel. The carbon in the steel react with diamond at high temperature during grinding, thereby the diamond particles will be corroded.

The materials used in the frame of mobile phones are becoming increasingly complex, with an increasing number of high-strength metals such as stainless steel, steel aluminum composite materials, and titanium alloys. The grinding efficiency of traditional grinding wheels is low and their life is not good. The grinding wheel made of single CBN or diamond abrasive cannot effectively complete grinding projects, and CDX grinding wheel is an ideal choice.
Manufacturing Technology
The raw material ratio of grinding layer: resin powder 10-30%, resin liquid 25-40%, diamond 10-15%, cubic boron nitride 10-20%, white fused alumina 8-15%, talc powder 3-5%, carbon black 1-3%, with the remaining amount of sodium nitrate.
Features of CDX Grinding Wheels
Resin powder provides a brittle tissue scaffold for grinding wheels. The resin solution undergoes solidification reaction to form the elastic grinding area of the grinding wheel. Diamond abrasives and cubic boron nitride abrasives as the superhard abrasives provide the excellent removal ability. Talcum powder, carbon black, and ammonium nitrate as the auxiliary fillers provide pores and lubrication for grinding wheel, further improving its polishing performance.
The microstructure of CDX grinding wheels have elastic and brittle regions, and with the structure features that the brittle regions intersect and contain. The elastic region has flexible grinding ability. It is good for the consistent height of CBN abrasive grains during the grinding process, improving the surface quality of grindign and reducing the scratches on the surface of workpiece. The brittle region, as a support, has a certain strength and rigidity, which can maintain good self-sharpening and it is good for reducing debris for blockage and reducing the frequency of grinding wheel dressing.
