Types of Cast Iron

The graphite is in flakes in gray cast iron.
Malleable Cast Iron
The graphite is in flocculent form in the malleable cast iron. It is obtained from white cast iron with a certain composition after high temperature and long-term annealing. Its mechanical performance ( especially toughness and plasticity) is higher than that of gray cast iron, so it is referred to as malleable cast iron.
Ductile Cast Iron
The graphite is in a spherical shape in ductile cast iron. It is obtained by spheroidization treatment before casting of ferroalloys. Its mechanical performance is higher than that of gray cast iron and malleable cast iron, and the technology is simpler than that of malleable cast iron. Also it can further improve the mechianical performance by heat treatment, and so it is used increasingly widespread in the production.
